Educational Resources

The Penobscot River Restoration Project offers a wide selection of environmental education resources focused on the Penobscot River and the watershed, fisheries restoration, community values, and the long-term benefits of restoring sea-run fish to the watershed. We have organized these educational resources on this page for educators to facilitate use within the classroom.

Essays & Articles The Penobscot River Restoration Trust is comprised of seven member groups and has wide-ranging support from individuals, organizations, and businesses. Here we share articles, essays, and other literature produced by members and supporters. Posters OTES Posters River of Life Benefits to Birds Maps Penobscot River Restoration Project maps are available to facilitate classroom discussion about the Penobscot watershed. Students may use these maps as a template to create their own map projects about related topics, such as watershed ecosystem biodiversity.			Multi-Media Audio, video, and interactive maps that offer commentary on the economic and cultural benefits of the Penobscot watershed within the community and including the ecological benefits for fish and wildlife throughout the watershed and into the Gulf of Maine. Audio Video Interactive Map News Media A variety of local and national editorials and focus pieces on the the Penobscot watershed and the Penobscot River Restoration Project from print and online sources are available for discussion.			Penobscot Watershed Education Program Pilot Project with Old Town Elementary School (OTES) In the 2007-2008 school year, a new multidisciplinary education program on the Penobscot River Watershed was implemented in a collaboration between Maine Sea Grant, faculty and fifth grade students at Old Town Elementary School (OTES), the Penobscot River Restoration Trust, and the University of Maine Senator George J. Mitchell Center. Curriculum Guides ~ Posters Vital Ventures Website Science & Monitoring A number of exciting river science and monitoring projects are underway on the Penobscot, such as research on sturgeon, geological surveying, and environmental monitoring to track physical, chemical, and biological changes in the river following dam removal.
